Non-Toxic Sunscreen Picks

Summer is coming up and now is the perfect time to decide which sunscreen you and/or your family will use! Below, I’m sharing my favorite non-toxic options:

When reading the sunscreen label, pay attention to the ‘active ingredients’ and ‘other ingredients’. The active ingredients in sunscreen are what actually provide protection from the sun. The active ingredient section is also where you will find the most harmful toxins, depending on the type of sunscreen.

The only active ingredient you should be looking for and using if you want a non-toxic sunscreen is zinc oxide (& sometimes titanium dioxide). Basically, you want to use a mineral sunscreen instead of a chemical sunscreen.

Chemical sunscreens have ingredients that can be carcinogenic or endocrine disruptors.

Ingredients to avoid:

  • Oxybenzone

  • Avobenzone

  • Octinoxate

  • Homosalate

  • Octisalate

  • Octocrylene

6: Merit Dewy Highlighting Balm (Shade: Cava) – Love this for an easy cheek balm glow! I also like to use it on my brow bone for a little pop.

7: Merit No. 1 Tapered Blending Brush – My fav makeup brush for blending concealer! It’s the softest brush you’ll ever feel but somehow still has enough structure to blend. I would re-buy this over and over.

8: Kosas Eyebrow Pop (Shade: Brown Black) – Love this for filling in my brows. It’s super easy to use and glides like a crayon!

9: Ilia Lip Liner Crayon (shade: earthen) – My new go-to lip liner. It is soooo creamy, I like it with their tinted lip oil. Also Ilia tests for all their lake dyes to ensure they are free of heavy metals.

10: Saie Liquid Bronzer (Sade: Salt) – My new go-to liquid bronzer/contour. Easy to blend and perfect bronze color (not dirty looking)

11: Saie Cream Bronzer (shade: medium bronze)- This is the perfect contour/bronzer. Blends perfectly and doesn’t look dirty or flakey on the skin! You must get this brush with it – so worth it!

12: Ilia Lip Wrap Reviving Balm – LOVE this lip balm!!! It’s so hydrating while giving your lips a nice gloss. If you have followed me for any amount of time you know this is my top favorite non-tox lip product.

13: Ilia Lip Wrap Overnight Mask – Throw away you Laneige Lip Mask (filled with toxins) and get this instead. I keep this on my nightstand, use it every night and wake up with hydrated lips. You’ll love.

14: Ilia Multi-Stick Cream Blush (shade: Whisper) – The best cream blush that can also be used on your lips. I love how creamy and blendable it is! Perfect everyday blush.

15: Ilia Translucent Setting Powder – This is my favorite for setting my makeup. I use it in my T-zone where I can get oily.

16: Tropicals Mint Lip Balm – A hydrating, glossy (but not sticky) minty lip balm – you’ve gotta try!

17: Kosas Makeup Setting Spray – Finally a non-toxic setting spray that actually holds your makeup in place all day and doesn’t feel heavy!

18: Ilia Balmy Gloss Tinted Lip Oil (shade: petals) – Oooo I was so happy to discover this lip oil! I love that the they are pigmented and look like a hydrating lip stick but wear like a lip oil. I plan to get a few more of these during the sale!

2: JVN Hydrating Conditioner – Recently started using this conditioner and I really like it! It is nice and hydrating but not too heavy on the hair. A little goes a long way!

3: JVN Hydrating Air Dry Cream – If you’re like me and you airdry your hair most of the time…yo umust try this! It helps reduce the frizz and hydrates your hair. You’ll be shocked after using this one your wet hair..once it dries it’s like you gave yourself a blow out!

1. Attitude Liquid Laundry Detergent – Mountain Fresh (160 loads)

  • This is my (and your) favorite scent of the Attitude laundry detergent. The bulk size is a great deal at about $40. You can also purchase the smaller size HERE if you want to try it out first!

2. Blueland Dishwasher Detergent Tablets

  • I love that these pods do not come wrapped in plastic. They are the best non-tox option that actually gets my dishes clean. You can buy the tin initially and then just purchase the refill bags from then on!

3. Nature Clean All Natural Dishwasher Rinse Aid

  • This gets all the water spots off your dishes and leaves them sparkly clean! You only have to refill it in your dishwasher like once a week.

4. Attitude Dishwashing Liquid – refill size

  • This is what I hand wash dishes with. The refill size was your guys’ favorite. Grapefruit is my personal favorite scent but they have lots to choose from. Grab the smaller size HERE.

5. Hiware Parchment Paper Baking Sheets

  • These are unbleached and they come in pre-cut sheets. I use these over cookie sheets, pans, and in my air fryer and they work great.

  • This has hyaluronic acid and squalene so you have to shake it up before using. I used to think face mists were so overhyped—until this one. I’m hooked and use it multiple times per day.

7. Blueland Oxi Laundry Booster Powder Starter Set

  • This acts as your oxi clean in your laundry loads. It helps get stains out and leaves clothes smelling fresh. My husband works in construction and this does wonders on his clothes! I use it on whites, darks, and towels.

8. Attitude Body Lotion

  • This is the Olive Leaves scent. This is my favorite everyday body lotion. It’s great for kids too. I’ve been buying this for the past two years, and so have you guys! The matching body wash is also so good and affordable.

Non-Toxic Snacks

Today I’m sharing some of my favorite non-toxic packaged snacks you can buy on Amazon! It’s been a highly requested topic, so I hope you guys find it helpful. I’m always a little hesitant to talk about food on the internet. It feels like people have more of a visceral reaction to food vs. beauty ingredients. My #1 goal when it comes to ingredients in food or beauty products is that if there is a better option, choose the better option! You don’t have to make it super strict and complicated to where it starts feeling overwhelming or like it’s ruling your life. An 80/20 lifestyle is what I strive for and it works for me 🙂

An easy rule of thumb to remember when reading food ingredient labels: make sure you can pronounce all of the ingredients listed. Besides that, I ensure there’s no canola or vegetable oil (seed oils)—also, no dyes or artificial sweeteners. When you start reading the labels on the food you eat, it becomes easier to recognize those ingredients you want to avoid.

I’ve broken up the snacks below by brand for the most part. Not all brands make every single product of theirs completely clean, so make sure you continue to read each label and make the choice that you feel is best for you!

  • I haven’t received this in the mail yet, but I’ve heard great reviews and I’m intrigued!

Extra Long Shower Curtain Liner

  • Since we gave our guest bathroom a facelift, I chose to use a regular curtain instead of the traditional shower curtain. I wanted it to be super tall too, so I’ve been looking for a tall liner to go with it and finally found one that is non-toxic! Look for curtains that say PEVA if you are trying to find a non-tox one.

Chunky Gold Knot Earrings

  • I’ve been seeing earrings like these everywhere and decided to find a lead-free version. I got the large but probably would have liked the medium or small better for every day!

Dishwasher Rinse Aid

  • This is the best non-toxic swap for the finish jet dry rinse aid that everyone uses. It helps eliminate water spots and makes your dishes come out sparkly clean.

Attitude Hand Cream

  • I’ve been using this for a while now and it’s very hydrating. I have no complaints about this, I’ve just been on the hunt for something a bit more moisturizing for the winter months. Go check out my recent hand cream finds on my LTK.

  • I think this would be great for curly hair. You spray on wet hair out of the shower and it gives great beachy waves.

Wooden Air Dry Magnetic Soap Holder

  • Since Sean uses a bar of soap, I’d been trying to find a holder for it for inside our shower. This one is great and holds the soap so securely!

Enviroscent Air Freshener Refills

  • I recently bought the lemon leaf and thyme scent of these wall plug-in refills, they are so good. I have them in pretty much every single room in our house.

Miss Mouth’s Messy Eater Stain Spray

  • This is the best non-toxic stain remover ever. Gets every single stain out of clothing.
